Vintage Inspired Retro Red Besame Lipstick As a little girl I loved messing around with my wonderful Nanna’s trinkets and make up bag! She never minded always smiling and laughing when I came out of her bedroom with a smeared clown red smile on my face. I think it was the smell and the vibrancy of the colour of the lipsticks that intrigued me, the packaging too was always delightful and I would sit for many a happy moment taking in the glamorous products.Very happy memories indeed.

Retro CosmeticsThese early memories of my elders wearing make up has had a long lasting effect. My Nan’s and my mother never had lots of different products but only 3-4 key items, a couple of lipsticks, a rouge and an eyeshadow was perhaps all they had but wow they all looked divine and oh so stylish. I remember asking my Nan why she wore only a red lipstick and she replied by saying ” Red is the only colour to be seen in” – it did look swell on her!

Those early memories have been dormant for a very long time. The elegant lipsticks, the indulgent packaging, with the beautiful colours and that smell of the make up was lost in a time in some distant decade. That is why it is so exciting to find a cosmetic company who are bring the luxurious style and decadence back into a woman’s life’s again. The lady responsible for bringing back such wonderful products is the ever so stylish and talented Gabriela Hernandez in her own words :

I want to make a mark of what I am and who I was in the world … I want to contribute something worthwhile through this line and inspire young woman to follow their dreams

What a truly inspiring quotation, Gabriela Hernandez whose own dream has become a reality. Her story is that of fairy stories. Her family immigrated to the United States from Buenos Aires in Argentina when she was only 12 years old. She taught herself English and attended a school in New York City. Gabriela then went on to earn herself a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art at the famous art centre in Pasadena California. Gabriela’s professional career has been truly creative from commissioned fine art and design to an accomplished make-up artist and cosmetic historian. Through out this she has always stayed true to her unique perspective.

Besame LogoSo it no wonder that she launched her own unique make-up brand in 2004. Besame Cosmetics was born out of Gabriela’s passion for designing and her desire to create an original cosmetic brand that would make woman look and feel truly glamorous and unique. Gabriela was very much inspired by her own Grandmother’s original 1940′s lipstick tube which have lead the way to the signature bullet shape lipstick tube. Her product designs and packaging all emulate a bygone era where a woman would never leave the home without her hair and make-up done. Besame is committed to creating a unique artfully designed cosmetic brand which is crafted to empower woman to feel feminine, elegant, stylish and glamorous.

There is truly something very magical and nostalgic with the Besame products they really do capture that bygone era. Their vintage feel and style conjures up all of my own memories of my own Nanna’s make- up products, products that made my grandparents feel more lady like and confident are once again back in vogue and Besame are certainly rethinking how and why we wear make-up once again. There is a lady like vibe to the product and a true vintage flavour, Gabriela says of her products:

I am glad that I am communicating this with my designs. I do want to create a “lady” ambiance with my products. The way products look contribute to the way you use them

Gabrelia is a modern day Fairy Godmother in my opinion. She is creating sophisticated make-up with all the modern day technology but whilst losing none of the real reason why she designed her range – which was from her own memories and love for her own Grandmothers lipsticks from the 1940′s.
Besame Sweet Heart Balm
LottyBlue is honoured to be stocking the wonderful cosmetic range from Besame, and if my Nan’s where both still alive I am sure they would be both wearing the Besame lipsticks of course it would have to be red! Gabriela Herndaez is an amazing woman who is an inspiration to us all!
